WOODCIRCLES is developing an Urban Sawmill concept – a sawmill that can transform waste wood into new high quality products. The challenge for the Urban Sawmill is that it has to be able to work with non-uniform input materials: waste wood of all shapes and sizes from the urban environment containing nails, screws etc. This is in contrast to a regular sawmill, which receives a uniform input directly from the forest.
By identifying, inspecting and processing local wood flows with advanced technologies, valuable material can be kept in circulation as a local resource with character, memory and future potential instead of being treated as waste.
